MacroView is delighted to announce that its customer, US law firm Poyner Spruill LLP (users of the MacroView DMF Professional Legal Pack) has been shortlisted for the SharePoint Innovator of the Year Award given each year by the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA).
Poyner will be presenting “Building the SharePoint p.s.empire: Beyond Intranets and Portals” on Wednesday 24 August at the ILTA Annual Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
In June of 2010, after months of intense research, planning, design and testing, Poyner migrated the first document from Docs Open into SharePoint. That single action launched the next generation of Poyner’s content management initiative for the enterprise -- what Poyner had come to affectionately call the p.s.empire. Users at Poyner now had a single platform and a consistent user experience for managing content; whether in client/matter sites (p.s.hub), the Intranet (p.s.net) or client extranets (p.s.portal). This award nomination is another way to help promote and educate ILTA members about using SharePoint for DM, not just for intranets and portals.
Below is the Executive Summary of Poyner’s submission for the award.
With the addition of DM to the p.s.empire, Poyner has maximized their investment in SharePoint as the firm’s primary enterprise content management system and client collaboration platform. Leveraging MacroView DMF and a host of innovative custom solutions, Poyner has delivered a rich user experience, improved efficiencies and added value for clients. Poyner users report high satisfaction with the enhanced features, functionality and interoperability of SharePoint, MacroView DMF and Office and are quickly letting go of old habits. From the support side, SharePoint and Office are pulling their weight, controlling, managing and efficiently delivering information while at the same time, mitigating risk, facilitating future growth and enhancing collaboration with clients.
Poyner knew they would be one of the first to take this leap, however, for them the risks were too many and too critical to wait for SharePoint to be the “perfect” DM. Instead of focusing on the “means” by trying to fashion SharePoint into a traditional DM, Poyner opted to focus on the “end.” SharePoint and Office will continue to evolve and improve. With content in SharePoint, law firms can choose whatever front-end product, like MacroView DMF, they like best. SharePoint is the future, and firm’s that don’t want to undergo the pain of a major legacy DM upgrade, only to end up still behind, should consider SharePoint. In retrospect, being one of the first had unanticipated risks and obstacles. However, if asked whether Poyner would jump on the SharePoint wagon again, knowing what they know now, the answer would be an emphatic, “YES!”
